Me and my Rosinante, or the pleasure of riding an old bicycle down the new Kashubian cycling routes

The great achievement of recent years is the development of many safe cycling routes and paths in the Tri-city (there are really many of them), in Kashubia and throughout Pomerania. About 20 years ago urban planners realised, that a narrow lane on the side of the road, where a cyclist with his/her own body “protects” parked cars from the car traffic is not the best solution.

Lavender potatoes, or wonders on a Kashubian vegetable bed

I’m not saying I’m a preservationist, but still, I’m from Eastern Central Europe and if there are no potatoes on the table prepared in at least four ways it’s not a big party for me. It is however not such an old tradition, it is said that King Jan III Sobieski was instrumental in bringing the potato to our lands. The ruler, during the relief of Vienna in 1683, sent his beloved Marysieńka a sack of potatoes. Wonderful.

And then there is mushrooming

It may be a cliché, but as the anthem of dreamers and lovers of spending free time in beautiful natural surroundings (Jeremi Przybora and Jerzy Wasowski’s „Na Ryby”) proclaims – “a forest is full of aromas”. And indeed, autumn in Kashubia means mushrooms, mushrooms and more mushrooms. With a bit of luck, you can find Armillarias just a few metres from the Birchy Hills house.
